Opposition Leader Pressed About LNG Tax Break

The provincial Liberals are hammering away at Opposition leader Blaine Higgs over the L-N-G tax break granted Irving Oil back in 2005.

He has denied playing any role in the deal but Liberal M-L-A Chuck Chaisson is skeptical, pointing out Higgs was on the Board of Directors of Canaport L-N-G at that time. Chaisson refers to the L-N-G tax concession as a “sweetheart deal”.

According to Higgs, he was involved in negotiating with the Spanish company, Repsol to locate the Canaport LNG plant in Saint John.
