Opposition Calls For Zone 4 Schools To Remain Closed

With COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations on the rise, the Opposition Caucus Chair asks that students in New Brunswick’s hot zone be kept at home.

MLA for Madawaska-Les Lacs-Edmundston, Francine Landry, has recommended that the province implement a distance education approach for the entire week to ease concerns.

“Parents and teachers are very concerned with the number of cases reported in schools, the significant number of people self-isolating and two recent outbreaks in long-term care facilities,” said Landry.

La Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany, a high school in the Edmundston region, notified the community last Thursday of a case within the school.

The demands are that distance education takes place for the minimum of this week, and the status of the situation be reassessed after the week.

The Edmundston region, excluding Saint-Quentin and Kedgwick, is currently in the red alert level.
