One New COVID-19 Case; 60 People Now Recovered

New Brunswick health officials announced one new case of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 112.

The new case is an individual in their 60s in Zone 2 (Saint John region).

Public Health said 60 people have now recovered from the virus, up from 53 on Thursday.

Ten people have been hospitalized to date. Of the five people who remain in hospital, three are in an intensive care unit.

Dr. Jennifer Russell, the province’s chief medical officer of health, once again reminded New Brunswickers to stay home this long holiday weekend.

“It is difficult to not visit our parents, other family members and friends but it would be more difficult to see them become sick because of a decision that was made not to stay home,” said Russell in a statement.

“Deciding to remain where you live does not mean you are not conveying your love for them. It is the opposite. It means you are conveying your love by protecting them.”

Of the 112 cases, 63 are travel-related, 35 are close contacts of confirmed cases, six are the result of community transmission, and eight remain under investigation.

Below is a breakdown of the number of confirmed cases and the number of tests done to date in each health zone:

  • Zone 1 (Moncton region): 23 cases/2,381 tests
  • Zone 2 (Saint John region): 24 cases/1,422 tests
  • Zone 3 (Fredericton region): 45 cases/1,729 tests
  • Zone 4 (Edmundston region): 7 cases/578 tests
  • Zone 5 (Campbellton region): 10 cases/345 tests
  • Zone 6 (Bathurst region): 1 case/644 tests
  • Zone 7 (Miramichi region): 2 cases/254 tests
  • Total: 112 cases/7,353 tests
