One dead in Fredericton house fire

Tragedy in Fredericton after a house fire on the north side of the city.

Fredericton Fire says the blaze broke out in a Barton Crescent home at around 8 pm Tuesday.

When the department arrived, they found the fire had already spread to most of the home.

Crews acted quickly after word that an occupant was trapped on the second floor.

They quickly located the individual, and life-saving efforts were performed before they were rushed to the hospital by Ambulance New Brunswick.

A statement from Fire Chief Killingbeck says they passed away a short time later.

Crews managed to get the fire under control within an hour, but remained on scene for several hours.

The cause remains under investigation.
