It is with deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Lutes,
age 84, of Dieppe, New Brunswick, on March 29, 2026, at Albert House Hospice, surrounded by the love of her family after a brief illness.
Born on February 8, 1942, Marie lived a life rooted in compassion, faith, and a deep commitment to others.
Her strong spiritual foundation guided her throughout her life, along with her unwavering belief
in social justice and the dignity of every human being.
Marie will be dearly missed by her sisters, Irene Matchim (late Clyde) and Doreen Battis (late Harold); her sister-in-law, Linda Arsenault; as well as many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. She also held a very special place in her heart for her lifelong dear friend, Lorraine Smith.
She was predeceased by her parents, David and Elmire; her brother, Brian; her sister, Donna; and her brothers-in-law, Clyde and Harold.
Marie began her vocation with the Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters in Indiana,
dedicating herself to meaningful work in Texas and East Los Angeles, where she served migrant communities with compassion and humility.
In later years, she continued her calling as a family therapist for over 30 years, touching countless lives with her wisdom, empathy, and care.
Marie’s life was a testament to her belief in the goodness of people and the importance of community.
She worked tirelessly to make the world a better place, guided by her faith and her deep respect for the human spirit.
She found immense joy in simple yet meaningful moments gatherings with family and friends, sharing laughter and meals, and especially summers at her beloved cottage in Shediac Bridge.
To Marie, “life was better at the cottage,” where friendships deepened, stories were shared,
and memories were made overlooking the river she loved so dearly.
Marie had a wide range of passions. She loved music of all kinds, from opera to cheering on her
beloved Dallas Cowboys as a devoted “couch quarterback.”
She was an avid reader and a proud member of her cherished book club.
Her love of travel brought her to many places of which she enjoyed immensely and one of these journeys brought her to Ireland,
where she delighted in exploring her roots and heritage.
Above all, Marie will be remembered for her kindness, her generous spirit, her deep faith, and her
enduring belief in the power of human connection.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and meaningful relationships that enriched her life and the lives of so many others.
Her family and friends will forever hold dear memories of her warmth, her laughter, and her unwavering care for others.
Visitation will take place on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Passage Chartersville in Dieppe, NB, followed by a Chapel Service at 1:00 p.m. A reception will be held immediately after the service.
