New Brunswick nursing home workers are continuing their fight for a new contract.
Workers held protests at the constituency offices of several cabinet ministers on Monday.
It comes after a three-day sit-in at Social Development Minister Dorothy Shephard’s office in Fredericton last week.
Sharon Teare, president of the New Brunswick Council of Nursing Home Unions, said the workers will keep up their fight.
“It’s the heart of a nursing home worker, right? We just don’t give up. It’s our passion for what it is that we do,” said Teare.
“All we’re looking for is the resources to care and this government can give us what it is to do what we do best.”
Two Sides Will Return To Bargaining Table
Union members have been calling on the province to agree to agree to binding arbitration in order to end the dispute.
The province has said it would consider it — but only under certain conditions.
Teare said the union and the province are set to return to the bargaining table on Thursday.
“I’m really hoping that they come with a meaningful response,” she said. “Something that we have asked for is to bring that enhanced wage package that they’re talking about.”
Union members and People’s Alliance leader Kris Austin also met on Monday to share their positions.
“They agreed to process it and look at it and would get back to us,” said Teare. “We’ll see how that prevails.”
