MySpace is coming back… eventually! In the documentary, MySpace, brothers Chris and Tim Vanderhook, revealed they have plans to revive MySpace. The Brothers acquired the platform for $35 million in 2011, and have since tried to bring MySpace back to life. The attempts have ended in failure for an onslaught of reasons, but the Vanderhook brothers appear dedicated to a revival in the near future. The Documentary “MySpace” made its debut at the 2026 Hot Docs Festival, an official date for streaming or physical release has not been announced yet. MySpace is about the rise and fall of the platform, and how it shaped social media platforms today.
With Myspace.com reviving, it is giving us a real sense of nostalgia. The internet was once a place that didn’t care about algorithms and trends- it was a place where people connected, discovered and created what they wanted. The original sandbox game, if you will. What else would you bring back from the internet graveyard if you could? Dex & Catarina from The Bend Breakfast, asked this and here are some popular revival wishes:
Geocities – This feels like something that just made sense in the early days of the internet! A website where you were assigned an address, and given a neighbourhood. You decided how to customize your page, and got to learn 90’s and early 2000’s coding 101.
Piczo – Piczo was a place where you decided what you wanted your page to be. Was it an anonymous Q&A, where you were desperately hoping your crush would confess their love for you, or a little update on your middle school lip gloss crisis… It was customizable, and creative. You could embed your own codes into the backend of your page to customize your cruiser, add music to your page and SO much more. It looks like it is making a revival, the 2000’s are so back.
Hot Or Not – The original Tinder? This site was dedicated to strangers, and perhaps friends, deciding if you were Hot… Or Not… Joshua told The Bend Breakfast “…you could search by geographical area, too, to find “singles in your area to rate”! So it was always funny when your sibling found a horrendous photo of themself on there with a bad rating” Sounds like the ultimate 2000’s way to get back at a sibling!!
It sounds like its time to restock your Smuckers Chapstick and get ready for some iconic online comebacks!
