No injuries after weekend fire in Riverview

A weekend fire caused damage to two homes and a detached garage in Riverview.

Firefighters were called to a home on Callaghan Road around 1:45 a.m. Saturday.

Chief Robin True said the home was fully involved by the time fire crews arrived.

The only person inside at the time managed to escape before fire crews got to the scene.

True said there was significant damage to the first floor and attic of the home. A detached garage and neighbouring home also suffered exterior damage.

Shortly after the call came in, there was a report of fire alarms activated at nearby Claude D. Taylor School on Whitepine Road.

Crews determined smoke from the Callaghan Road fire was drawn into the HVAC system, setting off multiple detectors.
