NHL alumni are set to hit the ice today as they help to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
The BMO Hockey Heroes weekend officially got underway on Friday.
Spokesperson Donna Gates says the Heart Heroes game tomorrow will see the NHL alum take on those who have helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in this event.
“All 24 Alumni play against the top fundraisers in the tournament, so regardless of what team that fundraiser was on, just by ranking of how much money they raised they get to play in an all-star game,” says Gates.
She says the public is welcome to come and cheer the teams on.
“We’ll certainly take donations at the door,” says Gates. “We would love to have them cheer on not only our NHL alumni who have come to Moncton to celebrate with us but also the hard working fundraisers who have made this event possible.”
Gates says this event is held in five other cities across Canada but Moncton has raised more money than any other.
“Over the last four years, this event has raised $2.3 million, which is absolutely incredible,” says Gates.
Featured alumni this year include Wendel Clark, Ray Bourque, and Curtis Joseph.
Today’s game gets underway at 2:30 at the Superior Propane Centre.
