A new retirement living community has officially opened on the Universite de Moncton campus which includes a 60-bed licensed nursing home and a research institute on aging.
Shannex operates the facility known as Faubourg du Mascaret in a public-private partnership with the university.

Shannex president Jason Shannon says the campus will offer an array of services for retirees starting with independent living apartments which are still under construction.
“That is their first level of service and it goes right through from hospitality to hospitality plus where you get some care with your servicing right to the licensed nursing home. So it’s complete peace of mind… no matter what happens, we’re going to have a place for you as you age,” he says.
Shannon adds community response has been tremendous noting how the nursing home is already full with a wait list and the hospitality residence building will be half-full by next month.

Faubourg du Mascaret is also New Brunswick’s first academic nursing home where health care professionals will receive hands-on experience and conduct research on long term care.
