New Pet Licensing Program Introduced In Riverview

The Town of Riverview has introduced a new pet licensing system called Docupet.

Pet owners will now be able to purchase and renew their licenses online, by email or over the phone. It also offers a service that helps to reunites owners with their pets when they become lost.

Director of Corporate Services Annette Crummey says low licensing compliance is a real problem for the town, “We know that we have a lot of pets in Riverview that do not have pet licenses. We stopped going door to door ourselves a number of years ago and we have a drop in the number of licenses that were being sold. We decided to go looking for a company that did this instead. Docupet was the only one we could find in Canada.”

Crummey says many pet owners have already taken advantage of the new program. They already have 10 people who have signed on.

Across North America, only 13 per cent of pets are licensed, despite the by-laws requiring that they are.

Riverview by-law requires that all dog and cat owners residing within the Town obtain annual pet licenses. All new pet licence purchases and renewals will be valid for 365 days from the date of purchase, at which point they must be renewed. The cost of a licence is $15 for pets who have been sterilized and $30 for fertile dogs and cats.

Pet owners can now license and renew their pet licenses online at riverview.docupet.com, over the phone at 1 (855) 249-1370, by mail, or in person.
