New Government Programs Take Effect Today

The New Brunswick government will begin providing basic information about adoptions starting today.

Adoptees and birth parents have been able to apply for access to identifying information for several weeks.

Information can only be released if the youngest adoptee in a sibling group is 19 years old.

People wishing to remain anonymous can do so, providing they filed a disclosure veto.

Also starting today, the Healthy Smiles, Clear Vision program is expanding to provide free eye exams and corrective glasses for all four-year-olds who aren’t covered by insurance.

For those with existing health insurance, the program will cover any difference between the amount covered by the policy and the maximum allowed under the program.

The insulin pump program is also expanding to include young adults up to 25 years old with Type 1 diabetes.

Previously, the program only helped parents of children 18 years old and younger.
