New Free To Play Disc Golf Course Opens In Dieppe

There’s a new way to have fun in Dieppe, with the opening of a brand new 18 hole disc golf course.

President of the Maritime Disc Golf Assocation Ben Smith says Greater Moncton is a central space within the Maritimes, and there is lots of growth potential for the sport.

This is the 11th course Smith has built.

He sent a letter to the City of Dieppe, proposing his idea and some players also lent their support.

“Our happenings coincided in the proper order and it piqued the interest of the City and they got the ball rolling,” says Smith. “So from time of conception & design to installation was only about nine and a half months.”

Smith says that’s a true anomaly because the average turnaround time is about 18 months to two years.

He says the Greater Moncton area was identified as a place where lots of people fit the mould of potential disc golfers.

“Dieppe is a challenging course, it’s short still in its current layout, and achievable even for a novice player to have some success,” reports Smith. “But it is very technical, we built a lot of holes in the woods, cutting up the natural attributes of Lakeburn area.”

Smith goes on to say this is a little different than the average Maritime course because “typically courses you might play around the Maritimes especially, you can get away even as an experienced with having one or two discs and not have to use all sorts of variety of shots but in Dieppe, you have to pull out a lot of shots.”

The second 18 hole disc golf course in New Brunswick is free to play, and is in the Lakeburn area of Dieppe.
