New five year deal for N.B. teachers

New Brunswick’s educators have a new contract.

The New Brunswick Teachers Federation voted 93 per cent in favour of the new five-year contract retroactive to March 1.

Co-President Erin Godin said the new agreement recognizes areas of concern, including salaries, time and flexibility, and respect for the profession.

“We have been raising the concern for some time about the lack of certified teachers in our classrooms. With a large number of teachers nearing or at retirement age, we will need to fill those positions. New Brunswick’s education system must attract new teachers. This new agreement should help,” Federation Co-President Heidi Ryder stated.

They both agree that it will help to attract and retain dedicated educators in New Brunswick.

The contract runs until February 28, 2031.

Full details won’t be released until the agreement is signed, which is expected to happen in June.

The federation represents over 10,000 K to 12 Anglophone and Francophone teachers.
