Saint John’s new police chief doesn’t officially start until November but he is in town getting to know the city and meeting the force.
We asked Chief John Bates if the force needs to work on improving its image given the criticisim coming from the Oland trial.
He says he won’t specifically discuss the Oland matter saying it’s across the road and they have members involved that will conduct themselves in a professional manner.
Bates says police chiefs are trying to find an equilibrium between leading the people inside an organization and the community they serve.
