A new place for Cap-Acadie residents to gather, get fit and have fun.
The Cap-Acadie Intergenerational Complex is officially open. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Saturday.
Mayor Serge Leger says this $25 million facility is an exciting new addition to their upgraded arena, “Everybody was waiting for a long time, and it’s finally here, and they can all use it.”
He told our newsroom that this centre started as a dream six years ago, and it took three years to build, but it was definitely worth the wait for the 11,000 residents living in Cap-Acadie.
“The funding came from provincial, federal, municipal and private as well. We raised $4.5 million of private funding. So everybody believed in the project. We finally made it a reality,” Leger expressed.
The centre includes a walking trail, a full gym, pickleball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, and other sports facilities. It also has a golf simulator, a playground, and the upgraded arena.
“We can now organize a pickleball tournament, a basketball tournament, and others. It’s going to create more traffic in town, and we’re trying to make it work year-round. So we can have events every weekend. So it’s going to be good for the community and business. Everybody’s going to profit from this,” Leger said.
The name of a restaurant that will also be featured in the centre was revealed over the weekend. It will be called ‘La Trappe aux Sports’.
The Cap-Acadie Intergenerational Complex is located on Arena Street in Cap-Pelé.
