New Brunswickers Urged To Take Precautions In The Heat

New Brunswick is experiencing its first heat wave of the season with temperatures climbing to at least 30 degrees and humidex values going even higher.

The Canadian Cancer Society is urging you to use “sunsense” or common sense while in the sun.

Spokesperson Michelle St. Pierre says applying sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 is a good place to start.

“Wear a wide brim hat which covers your ears, wear proper sunglasses which have UVA and UVB broad spectrum protection and we also encourage people to seek shade,” she notes.

She says parents should also keep a close eye on children and they are wearing proper clothing especially toddlers whose skin is very fragile and sensitive to being exposed to the sun.

St. Pierre adds it’s also wise to avoid the sun during the peak hours of the day between 11am and 3pm when the rays are strongest.
