New Brunswick has seen its fair share of emergencies in recent years between historic flooding, a global pandemic, and devastating ice storms.
May 2nd to the 8th is Emergency Preparedness Week with the theme for this year “Be Ready for Anything.”
Geoffrey Downey of the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization says people should be ready for emergencies at any time of the year.
“There really is no downtime at this point for New Brunswickers in terms of being ready, whether you are talking about an ice storm in January, flooding in the spring, potentially forest fires in the summer leading into hurricane season,” Downey said.
Despite the province being in a state of emergency for more than a year due to the pandemic, Downey said the work continues for their staff no matter what else comes along.
“At the end of the day, if there is an emergency that needs response, there is an emergency that requires a response. We will adapt to whatever the pandemic requires,” Downey said.
Alert Ready will be conducting a test at 10:55 a.m. on Wednesday which will happen simultaneously on cell phones, television and radio.
