New Brunswickers Being Misled By Politicians On Issue Of Shale Gas, Says Anti-Shale Gas Alliance

The Anti-Shale Gas Alliance claims New Brunswickers are not getting all the facts about shale gas from the current political debate, and they’re being misled by politicians who don’t understand the issues themselves.

Spokesperson Jim Emberger says Liberal Leader Brian Gallant has the right idea of calling for a moratorium, but it has to be for shale gas exploration as a whole.

“There is no difference between exploration and production, and you can’t produce without hydrofracking, so you can’t have it both ways. If you’re going to call a moratorium it has to be on exploration as well as on production.”

He says when it comes to shale gas, the economic figures that have been presented by the Alward government are baseless, and the Alliance feels that there is nothing to back up their job creation claims.

Emberger says the alliance is also concerned that only one party has mentioned climate change….He says it is probably the number one issue facing politicians everywhere.
