New Brunswicker among 56 Canadians invested into Order of Canada

A total of 56 Canadians will be invested in the Order of Canada on Thursday.

One of those appointees is Moncton’s Armand Doucet, a teacher at Riverview High School.

During a ceremony at Ottawa’s Rideau Hall, Governor General Mary Simon will invest four Companions, 22 Officers and 30 Members into the Order of Canada.

Doucet was recognized as a member of the Order of Canada for his significant contributions to both national and international primary and secondary education.

The order was officially launched on July 1, 1967, during the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation, with the 20th Governor General Roland Michener being the first inductee.

Since then, more than 7,600 Canadians have received appointments to the Order, representing a diverse group that includes scientists, musicians, artists, athletes, business leaders, film stars, philanthropists, as well as former politicians and judges.
