New Brunswick Crippled By Blizzard

Most of the province of New Brunswick came to a complete standstill yesterday, with the exception of a few snow plows that fought what felt like a neverending battle with the snow.

It was the worst storm this winter, with high snowfall amounts, high wind gusts, and cold windchill temperatures.

Codiac Transpo was pulled off the roads in advance of this storm, and Champlain Place chose to keep its doors closed as well.

All schools in Anglophone East, Francophone South, Anglophone South and Anglophone North are closed for the day. Codiac Transpo won’t resume service until 1 today, and Champlain Mall won’t open until 2 today. There are numerous other closures and other delayed openings today.

Many highways remain closed at this hour including Highway 15 between Moncton and Shediac.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Andy Firth says over 50 centimetres of snow fell on the Greater Moncton region, and our highest wind gusts were between 80 and 90 kilometres an hour.

Firth says as of 2am, at the Greater Moncton International Airport, there were reports of 133 centimetres total on the ground.
