Provincial Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson is asking federal party leaders to commit to funding a new bridge over the Petitcodiac River.
He’s asking for 52.8 million dollars to replace the causeway linking Moncton and Riverview.
They are asking for federal funds to cover half the cost of the 240 metre long, 100 million dollar bridge.
Petitcodiac Riverkeeper President Paul Belliveau says the best option for protecting the river is to replace the causeway, and he’s pleased to see the provincial government working towards that goal.
Belliveau notes the river has become significantly healthier since the causeway gates were opened 5 years ago.
