NDP Angry About Job Losses In Moncton Gaming Sector

Moncton has lost 67 jobs in the gaming industry and that is not sitting well with provincial NDP Leader Dominic Cardy.

American-based IGT which was once known as GTECH and originally as SPEILO has announced the jobs are being transferred to Nevada.

Cardy says the previous Conservative government injected $5 million into the company less than one year ago.

“Let’s strip away all of the political rhetoric here and look at what actually happened… (the government of) New Brunswick paid $5 million dollars to a company that bought a New Brunswick company so that in the end they could fire 67 New Brunswickers.”

Cardy adds this is another blatant example of how the Conservatives and the Liberals spend public money on companies that contribute nothing to the province.

Cardy says the province should adopt a jobs tax credit in which a company would only receive funding after a job was created and a tax rebate would be issued the following year.
