NBCC Saint John Apprentice Looks To Represent New Brunswick On International Stage

After winning gold at the Skills Canada National Competition in Moncton earlier this month, NBCC Saint John apprentice Jason Bonnell now has a chance to represent New Brunswick on an international stage.

The Sussex native took home gold in the refrigeration and air conditioning competition and also won the ‘Best of Region’ award. He was one of three New Brunswickers to take home gold.

The brightest and best apprentices in skilled trades and technologies from across Canada took part in the event, which was held in New Brunswick this year for the first time in its 22 year history.

Bonnell says it’s nice to know he can compete on a national level considering he’s only been working in the trade for a year.

This year is also a qualifying year for WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017.

The WorldSkills Team Canada 2017 candidates were announced at the Skills Canada closing ceremony and Bonnell was named as one of the prospects.

He’ll now have the opportunity to qualify and compete at the 44th WorldSkills Competition, in Abu Dhabi, in October 2017.

The competition is the biggest of its kind in the world and considered the pinnacle of excellence in skilled trades and technologies training.
