Women are calling the federal government’s decision to eliminate the GST on feminine hygiene products, a victory.
A motion was tabled in the House yesterday..and the federal government wants to remove the GST on menstrual products by July 1st.
Co-Chair for the Voices of NB Women’s Consensus Building Forum Jodi Dallaire says women have been fighting for this since 2004.
The GST is typically exempt on essential goods and services, and menstrual products are an essential product for most women.
Dalliare says the next logical step is to rally the provincial government to have remainder of the tax removed.
