Seniors groups are certainly glad the premier listened to their concerns and fears about higher daily rates for nursing home care in the province.
Cecile Cassista – with the Coalition for Seniors and Nursing Home Residents’ Rights – admits she was a bit surprised by today’s announcement and says she was planning to continue the fight.
“I didn’t think we would come this far. I thought we would have another five months to go. But certainly I was going to continue… I was going to continue the campaign,” Cassista notes.
Cassista believes a meeting between the premier and three seniors groups last week may have played a significant role in cancelling the controversial policy.
