The federal government has unveiled what a percentage of the revenue collected from the carbon tax will be used for.
Canadian Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says all funds must be generated back into its respective province.
90 per cent of the revenue will be going back to residents in the form of a climate incentive. McKenna announced today how the remaining 10 per cent will be invested.
“We will be providing 60 million dollars for energy-efficiency retrofits to schools in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and New Brunswick,” McKenna says.
Two million will go to New Brunswick schools with the intention of retrofits that will make them more energy-efficient.
Over 6 thousand schools in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick will be eligible for the money.
Ontario will receive 41 million dollars, Saskatchewan will get 12 million, while Manitoba will receive 5 million and 2 million for New Brunswick.
