NB Power reports it has raised rates since 2011 by 7.3 per cent. That compares to an increase of 9.8 per cent in Quebec and more than 21 per cent in Nova Scotia.
NB Power President and C-E-O Gaeten Thomas attributes this lower rate of increasing rates to the utility being the most interconnected for its size in North America.
Thomas says NB Power has maintained 10 to 15 per cent lower rates in the region.
He warns electricity rates would increase by 30 per cent if the Belledune generating plant, which is coal fired, were to go out of service by 2030.
