A public education campaign will be introduced as a part of the “move over” law.
New Brunswick MLA’s voted in favour of the motion in the legislature yesterday.
The motion was introduced by Moncton Northwest MLA Ernie Steeves in January. It was at the request of Savannah Deschenes, after he husband RCMP Constable Francis Deschenes was killed in an accident at the side of the highway near Memramcook.
Steeves spoke to Savannah after the vote,”She was thrilled. You could hear the joy in her voice and the smile on her face, you could feel that. It was great to give her the news, that the Legislature has agreed with her that they need better education and signage.”
The campaign will include billboards across the province, and Steeves says tow trucks will also be added to the law.
“Maybe a dozen billboards across the province. It’s not a big cash investment for the province, and it’s an easy fix. An education campaign could also go along with that on social media,” Steeves says.
