A former Fredericton radio host facing child sex charges in Puerto Rico has changed his plea to guilty.
Trevor Doyle was initially charged with one count of attempted sexual enticement of a minor and was set to stand trial in January.
But as part of a plea agreement, he pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
According to the agreement, obtained by our newsroom, Doyle travelled to San Juan “for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a person he believed to be a fourteen-year-old female minor.”
Court documents allege Doyle used online messaging applications to try and solicit sex from an undercover FBI agent who was pretending to be a teenaged girl.
Doyle was arrested on April 3, 2019, at a beach where he allegedly arranged to meet the girl.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, but the District Attorney and defence have recommended a sentence of between 70 and 87 months in prison.
A pre-sentence report was ordered Thursday and a sentencing hearing was set for May 19.
