Now that the Supreme Court of Canada has upheld restrictions on transporting alcohol across provincial borders, New Brunswick’s Treasury Board president says the focus can now be on trade.
Roger Melanson says a national Alcoholic Beverages Working Group has been established and it is looking at a number of issues.
“Can we increase the individual purchases outside a specific province? Also, how can we embrace the e-commerce? People are shopping online now,” he notes.
Melanson says the province is anxious to see the recommendations from the national working group which are expected in July.
In the meantime, he adds the province will be studying the Supreme Court of Canada’s ruling.
