The names of two new francophone schools in Dieppe are evoking Acadian heritage and culture.
The new school for Grade 3 to 5 will be called École Le Marais, while the Grade 6 to 8 school is going to bear the name of famous Acadian author Antonine Maillet.
Francophone South District Superintendent Monique Boudreau says Le Marais reminds people of the history of Acadians who made it possible to cultivate this land.
Boudreau adds it is an honour for a school in their district to be named after the novelist, and former teacher Maillet who introduced the world to the character of La Sagouine in 1971.
The new combined school complex is costing $27.4 million, and will accommodate 1,020 students.
