Spring weight restrictions for provincial highways will be lifted two weeks ahead of schedule, according to the province.
Restrictions will be lifted at 11:59 p.m. this Sunday in southern New Brunswick and at 11:59 p.m. on May 5 in the north.
These restrictions usually continue until mid-to-late May, however, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Richard Ames said the milder temperatures have allowed them to be lifted earlier than anticipated.
“It is important to note that some of our secondary routes will remain restricted or closed to trucks until the road conditions improve,” said Ames.
Weight restrictions for trucks are imposed each year to protect highway infrastructure from damage during the spring thaw.
Government officials have also allowed district engineers to close roads to trucks and impose weight restrictions on highways or portions of highways at any time to protect highway infrastructure.
