New Brunswick’s economy shed 7,300 full-time jobs in July, according to new numbers from Statistics Canada.
The latest labour force survey, released Friday, shows the unemployment rate rose by 0.7 percentage points to 8.5 per cent.
StatsCan says the large drop in full-time jobs was partially offset by the addition of 2,600 part-time positions.
Year-over-year, employment increased by 1,500 jobs, but the unemployment rate still rose as more people searched for work.
Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate inched upwards to 5.7 per cent. The country lost 11,600 full-time jobs and 12,600 part-time jobs in July.
