N.B. high school basketball champs crowned

Six high school basketball teams are ending the weekend as provincial champions.

For three of those teams, it is the first time they won their respective titles.

The Final 12 took place at TD Station in Saint John on Friday night and Saturday.

St. Malachy’s Memorial High of Saint John won its first AAA girls provincial title with a 66-55 win over Harrison Trimble High of Moncton.

In the AAA boys final, Kennebecasis Valley High clinched its first provincial title in 37 years with a 69-56 come-from-behind win over St. Malachy’s.

Harvey High downed Southern Victoria High of Perth-Andover 61-50 for its 11th single A girls title.

The single A boys title went to John Cadwell of Grand Falls, which beat Samuel-de-Champlain of Saint John 72-39.

St. Stephen High came from behind to nab the AA girls championship with a 73-67 victory over Rothesay Netherwood School.

Fundy Middle & High School clinched its first AA boys title after defeating École Sainte-Anne by a score of 95-54.
