Police say a 26-year-old man at the centre of an emergency alert in the St. Stephen area is facing several charges.
Mounties scoured the Moores Mills area last Wednesday looking for a man believed to be carrying a firearm with “dangerous intent” in the area.
An Alert Ready message was issued, warning nearby residents to stay inside and keep their doors locked.
The emergency alert was ended the next day but officers continued to search for the man, who remained at large.
Mounties said a tip from the public led them to a Moores Mills residence on Saturday evening, where they located the 26-year-old man in a vehicle.
The accused got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, according to the RCMP.
“With the assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services, police officers located and arrested the individual, who resisted his arrest, and sustained minor injuries,” RCMP said in a news release on Tuesday.
“The man was taken to hospital for medical treatment. He was later released from the hospital and was returned to police custody.”
The man is now facing five charges: assault with a weapon; possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose; dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; failing to comply with a probation order; and resisting arrest.
He remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Friday.
