N.B. Committee Makes Recommendation After Reviewing Death Of 3-Month-Old

New Brunswick’s child death review committee has made a recommendation in the death of a three-month-old boy who died from asphyxiation due to an unsafe sleep situation.

The boy’s death was determined to have been an accident and he was getting services through Child Protection Services. The committee is recommending that the launch of a public awareness campaign be considered by the acting chief medical officer of health to educate the public on bed-sharing and what they call inappropriate sleep surfaces.

The committee also reviewed the deaths of three other children whose families known to the department of Social Development. They reviewed the deaths of a 12-year-old girl, an 8-year-old girl and a 6-month-old boy who all died from complications due to disorders.

No recommendations were made in these three cases.
