Mounties Warn About “Momo Challenge” Targeting Children

RCMP are issuing a warning about a new, viral challenge on social media that is targeting children.

The “Momo Challenge” sends kids disturbing images and then asks them to complete dangerous tasks.

It involves the messaging application, “WhatsApp.”

Children receive a photo of a woman’s sculpture and are instructed to contact an account and do as they’re told.

If they don’t, they are told the woman will visit at night or a curse will be put on them.

RCMP Corporal Jennifer Clarke says they haven’t seen or heard of any cases yet in this region and she hopes it will stay that way.

“You can understand how a child would feel that they should probably go do that task to avoid being haunted or scared or whatever. We are asking parents to talk about it with their kids and not share it.”

Clarke says if someone is being asked to complete tasks criminal in nature, they could be arrested and face charges.
