More Rain, More Mosquitos…

If the rain hasn’t kept you from sitting outside, the mosquitoes may have.

According to the Greater Moncton Pest Control Commission, numbers are slightly above average for this time of year.

The GMPCC uses larvicide to help keep numbers at a natural level.

Field supervisor, Robert Gallant says predators like bats ans swallows can also help with population control.

He says you can protect yourself from getting covered in bites by using bug spray and wearing long clothing.

Gallant says the recent weather has played a factor as damp, marshy areas are the idea breeding ground for mosquitoes.

He says wet conditions have caused a slight increase to the number of mosquitoes around.

Despite doing their best to control the number of larvae along the Petitcodiac and in various parks, there are areas they don’t get to.

He says also says to avoid having any still water collecting in your yard.
