More Small Businesses Hiring People With Disabilities

Employers want workers who will stick around and who value the job, and workers want an employer who respects them as individuals: and hiring a person with a disability can ensure a health work environment for everyone, according to Laura Anderson of the Partners For Workplace Inclusion Program.

The program looks to find placements for people with all types of disabilities, from physical impairments to learning disabilities. Funding is available to employers through the program for things like ergonomic furniture and larger monitors for those with visual impairments.

And as it turns out, more small businesses in the country are hiring disabled workers. That’s according to a report recently-released by the B-MO Financial Group showing that 39-percent of small business owners in the country indicated they have hired someone with a disability which is up from 29% last year.

86% of those small business owners agree that workplace diversity is an asset, however only 36% say their company has a formal program in place to promote diversity and inclusion.
