More North Atlantic Right Whales were reported in the Gulf of St. Lawrence over the weekend.
As a result, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans has closed another zone to fishing – this time off the Gaspe Peninsula.
The closure will take effect on Wednesday afternoon and includes the snow crab and lobster fisheries.
After a dozen whales were spotted last week, another fishing zone was temporarily closed off the Acadian Peninsula in addition to a large static closure zone.
DFO is putting the measures in place in an effort to protect the endangered mammals.
