A historic building in downtown Moncton will see more upgrades over the next two years.
This is thanks to funding from various levels of government.
The Government of Canada’s Canada Cultural Spaces Fund is providing $500,000. $209,000 is coming from the City of Moncton, and other funding for the over $1.8 million needed for infrastructure upgrades is being acquired through a ticket levy.
Improvements to the Main Street venue include the replacement of four roof sections and five rooftop air handling units, updates to the drainage system, installation of new LED panels on the marquee, as well as masonry repairs and various window replacements.
They’ll also purchase new specialized equipment, including LED lighting for the lobby and main stage, stage drapes, a projector and a stage monitoring soundboard. Improvements to the building envelope and indoor floor levelling at the theatre’s additional creation space, the Capitol House on Chruch Street.
“These improvements will ensure that our beloved theatre remains not just preserved, but thriving, for future generations,” said Capitol Theatre Managing Director Kim Rayworth.
This is a multi-year project that runs between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2027.
