More Defibrillators Installed At Maritime Arenas

A program to install automatic external defibrillators in arenas across Canada is on target to meet its goal.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation and Federal Government continue to install automatic external defibrillators.

Currently, over 1,600 AEDs have been put in place since 2013.

The goal is to have 2,000 installed across the country by next March.

Manager of Resuscitation and Health Promotion, Lizzy Gresh, says they want arenas to be prepared.

She adds, “Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, so you could be an athlete, you can be a child, elderly, it doesn’t discriminate around your lifestyle choices.”

To date, every arena in New Brunswick has an AED installed.

Nova Scotia and PEI are still working to achieve that target.
