The executive director of the Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area has been recognized for her contributions.
Myriam Mekni has been named one of the Top 25 most inspiring immigrants in the Maritimes.
She says the award is a positive way to honour the sacrifices new Canadians make.
“They recognize, they are aware, that they are going to have to start over to get to where they were in their career and sometimes it doesn’t always work out that way but arriving at a stage in your life where you’re actually doing a lot for the community is worth being recognized for,”
Fellow Monctonian Monica Kimmel was also among the rankings.
Mekni was able to meet and connect with Kimmel and the rest of the winners during a gala earlier this month.
She says hearing each one of their stories was very inspiring and that it offered her motivation to keep going forward.
