The Moncton Wildcats will be training in Quebec City on a temporary basis.
Director of hockey operations Ritchie Thibeau says student athletes need to continue training to be ready to play as soon as games can resume.
“High-level athletes cannot stop training for an extended period of time and be able to perform at the same level.”
While COVID-related restrictions remain on games and practices in New Brunswick, there are no restrictions for the Wildcats to train outside the province.
Other Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams have permission to train under certain restrictions in Nova Scotia and Quebec.
“This temporary training location is what we believe is best for the health, moral and psychological well-being of our players,” says Thibeau.
“We look forward to returning to the Avenir Centre and our fans in Moncton as soon as we are able.”
The team is travelling to their new training site today (January 24).
