A 17-year old girl from Riverview is the youngest person to receive a Paul Harris Recognition award from the Moncton West and Riverview Rotary Club.
Rebecca Schofield is behind the viral #BeccaToldMeTo, which asks people to do acts of kindness and post them to social media.
She says receiving this award is overwhelming and the way the hashtag took off is almost unbelievable.
“It’s hard to comprehend everything but my Dad said he was blown away by it, and I said you don’t dream big enough, so I was dreaming and hoping it would do this but you can never expect a reaction like this,” says Schofield.
She says her hashtag campaign was an attempt to make a mark on the world before it was too late.
“And it’s not just about making me feel happy, it’s about the people that are giving, and it makes them happy, and then the people that are receiving that, it makes them happy,” says Schofield. “And it’s amazing.”
“I do believe that I was put here to spread kindness, I don’t know if you believe in fate or anything, but I do believe that’s what I was meant to do,” says Schofield.
The impact of Schofield’s hashtag has spread around the globe ranging from here at home, to the United Kingdom, Italy, and as far away as Australia.
