Moncton to play Baie-Comeau in first round of QMJHL playoffs

First-round matches have been set for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Moncton Wildcats will face the Baie-Comeau Drakkar as they compete for the Gilles-Courteau Trophy.

The series will be played in a 2-3-2 format due to the distance between the cities, the league announced Sunday.

Moncton will host the first two games on Friday and Saturday. Games three and four will take place in Baie-Comeau next Tuesday and Wednesday.

If needed, game five will take place in Baie-Comeau next Friday, followed by games six and seven in Moncton the following week.

Moncton (35-29-2-2) ended the regular season with 74 points, good for seventh place in the league standings. Baie-Comeau (30-32-4-2) was 10th in the league standings with 66 points.

The two teams faced off twice during regular season play and each picked up a win.

Other first-round series include Saint John versus Gatineau, Halifax versus Cape Breton, and Charlottetown versus Quebec.
