Moncton to get 30 new affordable senior housing units

A new affordable housing project for seniors in Moncton is moving forward with more than $9.5 million in public funding from all three levels of government.

The development will create 30 one‑bedroom units on St. George Boulevard, including six accessible apartments.

The provincial government said the project will improve access to safe and affordable housing for seniors in the city.

A medical clinic will also operate on the ground floor of the building.

David Hickey, the minister responsible for the New Brunswick Housing Corporation, said the need for senior housing in Moncton has grown.

“Our government recognizes the housing crisis is felt acutely in the Moncton area, and we are committed to tackling our housing challenges head‑on,” Hickey said.

“Projects like this help to reduce the housing wait‑list and create new affordable options for New Brunswickers.”

The federal government is contributing $6.52 million through the Affordable Housing Fund. The province is providing $2.38 million, and the City of Moncton is adding $600,000.

The project is being built in partnership with Rising Tide Community Initiatives, a local non‑profit organization that provides supportive and deeply affordable housing.

Moncton-Dieppe MP Ginette Petitpas Taylor said the project will help seniors who are struggling to find stable housing.

“The project we are officially announcing today will make a real difference for people here in Moncton,” Petitpas Taylor said.

“Every project like this one draws us closer to the country we want to build one where everyone has access to a safe and affordable place to call home.”

Rising Tide president Dale Hicks said the development will give seniors access to both housing and on‑site medical care, which he described as a model with strong potential for future builds.

The provincial housing corporation said it continues to work with municipalities across New Brunswick to expand affordable housing options in their regions.

The province said the new complex is expected to open in the coming weeks.
