Moncton seniors’ community joins expanding care program

A francophone seniors’ community in Moncton is the newest site to join New Brunswick’s Nursing Homes Without Walls program.

Faubourg du Mascaret, which includes Pavillon Landry and Pavillon Richard, will now offer services to help older adults remain in their homes, according to a government release.

Those services include wellness check-ins, caregiver support, educational sessions and activities to reduce isolation.

“The Nursing Homes Without Walls initiative continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors across New Brunswick,” Lyne Chantal Boudreau, minister responsible for seniors, said.

“By expanding this program, we are empowering more seniors to live independently in their own homes, with access to the care and support they need.”

Shannex, which operates seniors’ housing and care facilities, is partnering in the expansion.

“Ensuring older adults and their caregivers have access to health and social services is essential to supporting aging in place,” said Gillian Ferris, Shannex’s vice-president of operations and enhanced care for New Brunswick.

There are now 31 Nursing Homes Without Walls sites in the province.

The government says the initiative is attracting national attention, with nursing homes in other provinces expressing interest in adopting a similar approach.

Suzanne Dupuis-Blanchard, director of the Université de Moncton’s Research Centre on Aging, said the program continues to show success through collaboration between the provincial government, nursing homes and the university.
