Prominent Moncton Restaurant Founder Dies

Hynes Restaurant will be closed today out of respect for its founder.

Gerald “Buddy” Hynes died on Saturday at age 91 after a battle with cancer.

Buddy was the second generation of his family in the restaurant business.

Hynes Restaurant has been a Mountain Road institution in Moncton since the late 1950s.

According to his obituary, his passions were boxing and golf and he was a huge fan of the Montreal Canadiens.

Buddy enjoyed greeting customers at the door in his later years.

Frenette’s Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and a private funeral service will be held at a later date due to the pandemic.
